Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Paris Saint-Germain, is reportedly set to be fired, with Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte offering his services.
According to Le Parisien, Pochettino is set to be fired as Tottenham Hotspur’s manager. This comes just one day after the Parisians won the Ligue 1 title.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has had a difficult season at the Parc des Princes, with his team exiting the UEFA Champions League in the R16 round.
Following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he was linked with the Manchester United managerial job. He was even interviewed for the role, but Erik ten Hag was chosen instead.
There has been much speculation over Pochettino’s future in Paris, with rumors suggesting Zinedine Zidane could be his replacement. But the same report claims that Tottenham’s Antonio Conte has offered himself to Paris Saint-Germain in a stunning turn of events.
The reason for the potential sack for Pochettino will come down to not winning in the Champions League!
The former Southampton manager had a busy summer transfer window. Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Giorginio Wijnaldum, Achraf Hakimi, and Sergio Ramos all joined with the belief that they could now compete for European glory.
The signs were promising, as Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the competition’s knockout stages.
They then defeated Real Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of their Round of 16 tie. But then PSG suffered a major setback in which all of their flaws were exposed.
A second-half surrender in which Madrid’s talisman Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick. They were eliminated from the Champions League in humiliating fashion.
Pochettino’s future at the club was then called into question.
Pochettino has never been a popular figure among PSG fans at Parc des Princes. On the day they won their eleventh Ligue 1 title, he was booed.
And that appears to be how his tenure as PSG manager will end, with Antonio Conte looking likely to replace him.
So, what now for PSG? – Antonio Conte?
Conte has changed the fortunes of Tottenham Hotspur since joining in November 2021, with the team winning 13, drawing four, and losing six games in the Premier League under his tutelage.
From May 2019 to May 2021, he was the manager of Inter Milan in Serie A. Conte has also managed high-profile teams such as Chelsea, Juventus, and the Italian national team.
Given his experience and winning mentality, PSG’s decision to bring Conte to the club, just might prove to be a good one!
