The Premier League campaign is only five games old, but the battle for the esteemed Golden Boot award is already becoming an intriguing one.
After five rounds of fixtures, Liverpool lead the pack with five wins from five matches. Manchester City were breathing down their necks, while Leicester City, the league’s only other undefeated team until the weekend, have dropped.
While the Reds have taken the maximum 15 points, it’s the Citizen’s player that currently sits at the top of the goal-scoring pile. Argentinian superstar Sergio Aguero had scored six times in the opening four games of the season. He’d found the net twice in each of his last two games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth. And then he managed to become only the third player in Premier League history to score in the first five matches of the season by scoring in City’s defeat at Norwich.
The tussle for the prestigious prize in 2019/20 is set to be just as tight, with five of the bookmakers’ top six favourites all having been previous winners.
Here is the very latest look at the odds on who will be the EPL’s leading marksman this season.
Sergio Aguero
Sergio Aguero is a 5.00 (4/1) favourite to win the Golden Boot award for the second time in his illustrious career after bagging six goals so far. Despite netting 164 Premier League goals prior to this season (6th all-time), Gabriel Jesus has taken his spot in the starting line-up in the opening game of the season.
However, the bookies’ favourite has started all the games since then, and this could very well be his another 20-goal season in the EPL, for the sixth consecutive time. With six goals to his name already, the former Atletico Madrid star looks like an excellent bet to capture the prize this season. That would be the first time to do so since 2014/15 when he scored 26 goals.
Harry Kane
Though Kane hasn’t started the season at a rate of knots, the Spurs’ marksman has netted three goals in his first four appearances of the season, making him the second favourite to land the Golden Boot.
With 128 goals in the competition and the award won in 2015/16 and 2016/17, the odds for Kane are set at 5.5 (9/2). England’s captain and one of the deadliest strikers in the Premier League began this season in exquisite style. He scored two goals in Tottenham’s opening match against Aston Villa before shaking the net against Arsenal.
Last season, due to an injury, he could “only” score 17 times in 28 games he played, which is still an admirable feat. Combine that with the fact that he was always a slow starter and that he usually develops as the season progresses, and we’re looking at a potentially lucrative bet.

Mohamed Salah
Salah is one of the scorers who can find the net by cutting in from the wide areas, which makes him a constant threat. He has been terrorising his opponents since joining Liverpool and will try to win his third Golden Boot in a row. Thanks to his incredible performances as of late, Salah has become one of the top favourites to win the Ballon d’Or 2019.
The Egyptian winger, like Kane, has had a slow start for his standards, scoring three goals in the first four games. Salah scored twice in his team’s win over Arsenal but failed to get on the scoresheet in the club’s 3-0 win at Burnley.
Looking at William Hill’s offer, he’s at 5.5 (9/2) to continue his fantastic goalscoring form since joining Liverpool and win the Golden Boot again. That’s not to say that his teammate, Sadio Mané, won’t compete for the trophy as well. Mané had the best season of his career last year and is at 15.0 (14/1) to replicate that success by winning another Golden Boot award this year.
