Making a prediction about how someone’s professional career might turn out in ten years time can be a rather daunting challenge and one that many would not envy when they consider all the possibilities.
Indeed, placing a huge amount of pressure on a youngsters shoulders can do one of two things: either set them up for success or set them up for huge failure if they fail to meet the lofty expectations that have been set or the premature comparisons that have been made.

Playing at Middlesbrough when identified, the striker’s career has gone in one direction – downwards. Spells at clubs such as Hartlepool United, Scunthorpe United, Coventry City and Peterborough United followed, before completing a move to Scunthorpe on a permanent deal. He would then spend time on loan at Northampton Town before moving to Hartlepool permanently in 2018 – which is where he remains.
Ravel Morrison
We all know about Ravel Morrison and how good he was supposed to be when coming through the ranks at Manchester United. Obviously, things failed to work out for him and a career that has seen him pick up a number of miles around the world has not seen him fare much better. Playing in Holland with ADO Den Haag now, hopefully he reaches the potential everyone thought he could reach.
Ross Barkley
The only one who The Independent have managed to get right on this list, Ross Barkley has had a relatively good career. Having starred for Everton, he managed to become a full England international and managed to seal a move to Chelsea. Currently out on loan with Aston Villa, the midfielder continues to prove the newspaper right about how right they were when making their predictions.
Robert Hall
Football fans would be forgiven if they did not remember – or know – who Robert Hall was. Having started at West Ham United, the forward has had numerous loan spells in England’s Football League and has since joined Oxford United permanently. He currently finds himself out on loan at Forest Green Rovers, though.
